Background

Economic Context

Economic benefits are no examples other than the aforementioned revitalisation of the local economy. As the city is an owner building, the main purpose is to increase the value of the city, and economic profits will be pushed out to the second place.

Social Context

It also explains social benefits and their impact on the community. It is in the social interest to make existing vacant spaces a square of the community, increase spatial utilization, and revitalize the community of residents, which can increase the value of the community and boost the economy

Environmental Context

Environmentally, it is meaningful in that it activated the vacant lot where existing waste was thrown away, and participates in the local green area network through the creation of green areas on flower beds, trees, and rooftops.

The Plan

Pre-planning Efforts

The best benefit and goal of this building is to revitalize the community of residents: it is a building for social benefit, and if it is judged not to have this social utility, it will be transformed into a new building. It also explains social benefits and their impact on the community. Goals and Objectives

The project aims to improve the living environment and urban landscape of Geumcheon-gu by connecting the disconnected area with small libraries and residents' exchange space. 1. Resident community space centered on small libraries 2. Context with the surrounding enviroment 3. Energy Efficiency 4. Local Green Area Network 5. Soundproof

Issues and Problems

However, I think it was a bit optimistic to think that existing libraries were abandoned by people just because of design and interior design. Of course, it's just my opinion, too, but I felt that the library (of course it's in charge of places where people gather) and the expensive price of cars are a little unbalanced. In fact, when you enter the building, you can feel that the sound of cars running and the noise outside interferes with the immersion of reading. Of course, although the library's function is not merely representative of all the building's functions, it is designed to be used as a multi-purpose space, the noise from cars and roads never leads to a positive interaction. Recognizing this part and encouraging the addition of soundproofing programs at the time of the contest, it seems difficult to solve this problem unless the library changes the nature of the program

Current Status

In the context of community space and environment, it appears to have achieved some of the main objectives of the project. However, it is a bit disappointing that its function as a library has been ruled out and that noise from surrounding roads is coming inside. In fact, I think this is an inevitable problem due to the unchangeable concept from the pre-Objectives and Goals stage.

Lessons Learned

What is the most important take away from this case?

Surrounded by surrounding roads, it is difficult for libraries to function fully in their own right.

Why is this case relevant today and for whom?

I think it's worth it as an effort by the city to address the problem of lack of space in the city.

Which strategy was proved to be successful?

The strategy of building Community Square under the overpass is quite creative.

In your opinion, what could have improved this project?

Development of a 2th Floor multipurpose space.

Any other comments?
